Burbank is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 100,316 at the 2000 census.
Burbank is located in the eastern region of the San Fernando Valley, 12 miles north of Downtown Los Angeles.
Billed as the "Media Capital of the World"[citation needed], many media and entertainment companies are headquartered or have significant production facilities in Burbank, including Warner Bros. Entertainment, NBC Universal, The Walt Disney Company, Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network.
At one time it was referred to as "Beautiful Downtown Burbank" on Laugh-In and The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.[citation needed]
Although commonly believed to be named for horticulturalist Luther Burbank who once lived in Santa Rosa, California, the city is named for David Burbank, a New Hampshire-born dentist and entrepreneur. Burbank is the only city in Los Angeles County named for a dentist.
